How the draft should have went

Posted on: April 27, 2008 7:23 pm

First I just have to mention how disgusted I am with the fact that the Bears drafted yet another defensive end. They also drafted another CB which I'm okay with but they really should have taken a QB at some point in the draft. Oh well.

1. Jeff Otah (OT - Pittsburgh) His player profile page  for the NFL combine says he compares to Max Starks and has ideal size and speed to be a left tackle.

2. Brian Brohm (QB - Louisville) - I can believe he fell to the Bears and they didn't take him. That was a dream pick for the Bears and they blew it. So, exactly who are our QBs right now?

3. Matt Forte (RB - Tulane) - I like Forte a lot and I am glad he Bears picked him, but he would have been available in the third and the Bears still get a potential franchise passer.

3. Mario Manningham (WR - Michigan) - It's not that I don't like the Harrison pick, it's that I think the Bears have already gone down one raod with a DT who has an arrest record a mile long, why another one? Manningham has the ability to turn into a legitimate #1 WR.

4. Craig Steltz (SS - LSU) - I like this pick a lot. He's like what the Bears expected Adam Archuleta to be.

5. Roy  Schuening (OG - Oregon State) - The Bears again pick oline but this time on a developmental prospect like they did with Josh Beekman last year.

5. Steve Justice (OC - Wake Forrest) - Olin Kruetz isn't getting younger a Justice is a good developmental project to groom as his replacement.

7. Marcus Griffin (FS - Texas) - The Bears still need depth at free safety.

7. Jeremy Leman (ILB - Illinois) - Who the heck is Joey LaRoque? Sounds like an adult film star name. Leman should absolutely be giventhe chance to make a roster.

7. Jonanthan Zenon (CB - LSU) - Fine Angelo you want a corner? Here you go. At least this one doesn't have a history of injuries.

7. Marcus Monk (WR - Arkansas) - One of the only other picks the Bears made that I actually liked.

How the draft should have went

Ill agree to disagree.  Williams was the better choice.  Hes a natural LT, while Otah was a RT.  Im pretty sure the Bears would have pulled the trigger on Otah if he was a LT, because he has less injury problems than Williams, but i digress.  Im bummed about Mendenhall but am happy because every decent OT was gone by 21.

I disagree with Brian Brohm.  We needed one later, 5th-the end.  But nothing, and im still going WTF?  I would have settled for Anthony Morelli, Nick Hill, anyone!  I would have totally pulled the trigger on Desean Jackson.

Agreed on Forte, and would have passed on Manningham with Jackson, and would have traded that pick for picks.  WTF were they thinking with the DE?

Steltz i agree, Tommy Z went really earlier than everyone expected.  Was Griffin even drafted?

Shuening and Justice were taken late, Justice was your boy too......but who in the hell would have thought that Indy would take 2 centers when Saturday still has years left in him?

Agreed on the CB, now we have another CB who blew out both knees.   Just fantastic.  AGreed on Leman,  not on Monk.  I would have taken a shot on someone else.  Very quality, look at mine.

How the draft should have went

Im disgusted with how our draft whent.

Brohm or Henne would have been the logical choices at that point, but no lets take a big RB from Tulane.

Seriously how dumb can Angelo get. Ok you want to take another RB thats great, but get a change of pace guy. Benson and Peterson are both power runners. We should have gotten a speedster like Charles or Slaton and we could have gotten both far later than the 2nd round. Why get another power runner?

Also with Manningham i cant believe they didnt pounce. So what the guy smoked a little weed in college. A guarantee at least half of the players in the NFL smoked a little weed in college, or still do to this day. We missed out on a stud right there.

Also in the 2nd round there were a plethora of top WRs still there. A bunch of no names were taken besides Devin Thomas before our pick. We still had Kelly, Manningham, Jackson and another guy im drawing a blank right now.

The only picks i like are the Williams pick, the Steltz pick and the Monk pick. Other than that we did awful. Forte wont amount to anything in the NFL.

We had studs fall into our lap the entire draft and we never capitalized on it.

This is going to be a rough time to be a Bears fans fellas.

How the draft should have went

Agreed that the bears dropped the ball Quarterback wise, but STRONGLY disagree about Forte he reminds me alot of Thomas Jones, great vision solid speed! They dont want a change a pace guy they wanted a guy who can compete against Benson as the starter! They already have Wolfe to be the change of pace and he was really coming along towards the end of the year when they started using him correctly.

jiggadhu was right they could have probably gotten Forte in the third and if Brohm falls to u in the second round u HAVE to take him!

With that said: Williams was the most Nfl ready Tackle in the draft

Forte is better then most of u fans (who know nothing about him) say he is

I am a little skeptical about Bennit I havent seen enough of him to gauge him

Harrison is fine they really do need another tackle Dvoracek has been hurt...well he hasnt NOT been hurt

and I also like Monk

a Qb at ANY point after would have been nice though 0_x

How the draft should have went

I know alot about Forte. I am a huge college football guy and saw a few Tulane games this season.

The one that sticks out most in my mind was the LSU game. If he is as good as you say, he would have performed against them. He didnt. He had a solid 1st half but was nowhere to be found in the 2nd half of that game.

That was probably the best competition he faced his whole college career, and he didnt do that great. At least not good enough to be a 2nd round pick

And why not get a change of pace guy? Wolfe is not it. Yes he is very fast, but hes not an NFL caliber RB. Regardless if they wanted somebody to compete with Benson, Benson is still going to get carries. You can't have 2 guys with the same running style as your main RBs. It will not work.

Heres a great example of why having change of pace backs are great. The Super Bowl winning Pitt. Steelers. Bettis and Parker are complete opposites and that worked out perfect.

And this years Dallas Cowboys will be another one. They just picked up Felix Jones whose main thing is speed. He can break the big one at any moment. Then you also got Marion Barber who is a power runner, completley diff. than Jones.

Benson or Forte are not guys that are going to be top shelf RBs. Angelo needs to see that this needs to be a dual RB threat. And the best way to go 2 RBs is having one power runner type, and then one speedster. You cant have 2 power runners, because no matter whose in the game the defense knows what they are going to do. You need to get a guy thats going to keep the defense on its heels.

How the draft should have went

Your overrating the idea!

Having a change of pace back is a luxury not a NEED.

The Vikings dont have a change of pace guy, Just 2 great backs that play a simular style and thats working pretty damn well for them isnt it?

The idea isnt always 2 oppisite type backs just 2 good backs

so whats the point of having a change of pace guy if the guy setting the pace(Benson) isnt getting the job done?
