Bears Mock Draft with Compensatory Picks.

Posted on: April 1, 2008 11:41 am

Compensatory picks are awesome, especially when you get three of them. I don't so much care that they're in the 7th round, it still give the Bears the option to take Chances on players they wouldn't normally take chances on. I also wanted to say how very sorry I am that Heath Benedict passed away. Many of you who read this blog regularly knew that I was a big fan of Heath and I send my most sincere condolences to his family.

With that being said, here's the last mock draft I'll make before the draft.

1. Rashard Mendenhall (RB - Illinios) - So reports out of Chicago indicates that Cedric Benson's rehab is not going according to schedule and that he's lost a step. It's funny cause it's not like he was a bolt of lightning to being with. The Bears desperately need a top tier running back. Mendenhall has the running style of Benson but has better hands, more heart, faster, and just an all around better dude.

2. Sam Baker (OT - USC) - Once Baker was projected as a first round pick. Now he falls to the second. Perfect! Kind of a blessing in disguise seeing as how the Bears really, really, really, need  top tier running back. Did I mention that Cedric Benson has actually LOST A STEP?!?!?!?

3. Chilo Rachal (OG - USC) Should help the learning curve with him and Baker having played together in college. The Bears also need depth at the gaurd position in case either Beekman or Garza get hurt. In a few years he could be a quality starter.

3. Red Bryant (DT - Texas A&M) - I struggled with this pick. A lot. I know DT isn't the biggest area of concern but with RB and the oline situation squared away, it's time to start looking at the defense.

4. Jamar Adams (SS - Michigan) - Some people want Tom Zbikowski. Me? I view him as a slower version of Adam Archuleta. To me Adams is the safe pick for a SS.

5. Marcus Griffin (FS - Texas) - I really believe that he will be the steal of the draft if he falls this far. The Bears need depth at the safet position badly and I think he's the best FS in the draft after Kenny Phillips.

6. Colt Brennan (QB - Hawaii) - Everyone keeps talking about how bad the Bears QBs are. I don't happen to agree which is why  I have the Bears taking one in the 6th round. Rex Grossman in the 8 games he played last season was sacked 25 times. He had no running game to help him out. What other QB besides Peyton Manning and Tom Brady would have thrived in this situation? But the Bers do now need a third QB and someone to groom while Rex and Orton battle it out in training camp. As far as this pick goes, why not tacke a chance here in the seventh round. What do the Bears really have to lose? A 6th round pick? With all of his NCAA records, I'll take that gamble.

7. Adrian Arrington (WR - Michigan) - I honeslty think he can be better than Mario Manningham eventually. He probably would have been a higher pick if he would have waited to enter the draft.

7. Devone Bess (WR - Hawaii) It would be nice to get a receiver who is comfortable with Colt Brennan and I think Bess could actually turn into a fine receiver. He's in a similar situation with Arrington above as he too is leaving early.  He reminds me of a shorter, more sure handed Bernard Berrian

7. Barry Booker (DT - Virginia Tech) - at 6'4" 284 lb, he's a little undersized for a DT but he's also pretty fast and could be a good contributor on special teams.

7. Jeremy Leman (LB - Illinois) - He may not be the biggest LB, he may not even be the fastest, but he has heart, character, and he's one of the smartest players in the draft. He could replace Brendon Ayanbadejo very nicely on special teams.

Bears Mock Draft with Compensatory Picks.

Heath Benedict's passing did suck a little......well here we go.

Mendenhall we are in an accord, and as for Baker, if he's there, i expect him, and me, expecting the worst, think he wont be there.  If not, i think Anthony Collins or Nicks are adequate.

I like Chilo Rachal as well, but his stock is massively rising, and if moving to the 7th pick in the 3rd round can get him, take him.  If not, McGlynn is the next best.

The Bears currently have 6 DTs on their roster now, and im assuming only 4 make it to the real roster, and 2 to the practice squad......so im not so sure that adding two more is a good idea.

You sir are underestimating Tommy Zbikowski's speed, the man returned punts and runs a 4.5 40.  That is a lot better than Archuleta, so i dont know how exactly he is slower......that and hes worked out with the Bears 2 times, while Jamar Adams hasnt.  Marcus Griffen wont go 5th round.  Hes projected 2-4th round.

I like Colt Brennan too, but the Bears are big fans of Nick Hill.  While expressing interest both before and after the senior bowl about brennan, Hill has worked out with and impressed the Bears.

I dont trust Michigan recievers, i call it the "David Terrell is Awful Syndrome."  Bess is a sexy pick, and hes only an inch shorter than BB.

Leman should be a nice grab, dammit, now i gotta fix my mock with comsempatory picks.  Do we have the Mr. Irrelevant pick?

Bears Mock Draft with Compensatory Picks.

I really want the Bears to get Sam Baker and Chilo Rachal just because when it comes time for them to play there's not a whole lot of adjustment they will need to make to eachother just because they've played together already. I agree that Chilo's stock is rising but the Bears should be able to land him early in the third round due to switching picks with the 49ers.

As far as the DTs go, I like Red Bryant a lot but would not be upset if the Bears went in a different direction. But I do think he would be the best player available in a need position with that pick. As far as Barry goes, I just didn't know who else to pick. It was getting pretty thin in the 7th round.

I have nothing against Zbikowski, I just think Jamar Adams will turn out to be the better pro. He's a more natural athlete and pretty good in coverage. As far as Marcus Griffin falling to the 5th a lot of teams are starting to shy away from him and he's falling into more the 4th-5th round range. Having said that, I'd be more than willing to take him in the third as opposed to Red Bryant, or maybe even Andre Woodson.

I agree with you that I would have a hard time trusting a Michigan WR in the same way I would have a problem trusting a Texas Running Back. Especially when they were picked 8th and 4th overall respectively. But in the 7th round, I think Adrian Arrington is a good gamble and you have to remember the biggest crapshoot in the draft is the later round picks.

I think Bernard Berrian is 3 inches taller than Bess. I thought Bess was only 5'10" and BB was 6'1". I could be wrong as for some strange reason players are listed with different hieght and weight all the time.

The big thing that used to worry me about Colt Brennan is that he was pretty small. He was only 6'3" and 185 lb at the combine. From all  reports yesterday he looked very good throwing the ball and he had bulked up to 218 lb. The only concern now is that he's going to have hip surgery and out 3 to 4 months and could go undrafted. I personally wouldn't mind taking a shot on him in the 6th or 7th round. One thing that does worry me is his low delivery. That is something he will have to work on but it's not like he'll be expected to play next season.

As far as the Mr. Irrelevent pick goes, I think we're about 5 picks away from that.

Bears Mock Draft with Compensatory Picks.

Dont get me wrong by any means, Chilo Rachal is a fine pick anytime after the 1st round, and im weary of that because many mocks have him going second round, and me very well may because he is considered the 2nd best G in the draft behind Brandon Albert out of Virginia.  Again, if we can get him, by all means take him.  The Bears fell in love with the kid when he met them.

I can maybe see a DT picked with one of the last picks, but not with picks 1-5, because we have 6!  What the hell is the point of getting one when youre probably paying one more or just as much and you cut him?  Not a good idea.

Ehhh, you like apples(Adams), i like oranges(Zbikowski).

I dont think Aarington will be better than Mario Manningham, but he doesnt seem special really, Manningham was.  I thought Bess was 5'11 and Berrian was just 6', maybe we looked at different sites......

I like Colt Brennan, and would love to see him on the team, but the Bears have been big on Nick Hill out of Southern Illinois.  Im not against either because there is nothing extra special about them, but at the same time they havent shown any signs of being flawed.  Both could be a Tom Brady or a Steve Stenstrom(remember this bum?)  Dammit, i wanted Mr Irrelevant.......wasnt Marques Colston one?  Or was he just 7th round?
